The naked little boy urinating into the fountain’s basin was originally put in place in 1618. The statue isn’t always naked, however, as it has a wardrobe that would make any celebrity jealous: It has 900 costumes that are changed frequently. Visitors can view them at the City Museum. The Manneken Pis (little peeing boy) is one of the best-known symbols of Brussels and Belgium. He is an expression of the folk humor popular in Brussels.
