A Christmas Story
A number of years ago, our daughter was excited to spend her very first Christmas in Brooklyn, New York. Like so many people decorating a home for the holidays, she wanted the perfect Christmas tree. After searching online, she found exactly what she was looking for on one of the major online retailers that allows third-party sellers to list their products.
The photographs looked beautiful.
Getting a large Christmas tree delivered in the middle of Brooklyn wasn’t easy. It took planning, coordinating delivery times, and plenty of anticipation. When the tree finally arrived, she eagerly opened the box.
What unfolded looked nothing like the photographs.
It wasn’t just a little different—it was completely disappointing. Unfortunately, after all the effort it took to arrange delivery and with Christmas only days away, she had little choice but to keep it. That Christmas taught her a lesson she has never forgotten.
Online pictures don’t always tell the whole story.
That same lesson applies every day in the bronze sculpture industry.
At Art of Bronze, we regularly receive calls from customers asking, “I found what appears to be the exact same sculpture on another website for much less. Are they the same?”
The answer is often no.
While many websites display similar photographs, the sculptures themselves can be dramatically different. Some are poorly cast copies with soft details, thin bronze walls, inferior welding, or low-quality patinas. Others are classic examples of bait-and-switch, where the sculpture delivered bears little resemblance to the one advertised. Unfortunately, we’ve even spoken with customers who paid for artwork that never arrived at all.
The photographs below compare sculptures produced by Art of Bronze alongside sculptures sold elsewhere that are represented as being the same. At first glance they may appear similar, but the craftsmanship, detail, proportions, finishing, and overall quality tell a very different story.
Buying bronze artwork isn’t like purchasing a household item. A quality bronze sculpture is an investment that should last for generations. That’s why it’s important to know who made it, where it was cast, and whether the company stands behind what they sell.
We still laugh about our daughter’s unforgettable Christmas tree. It has become a favorite family story over the years.
But while a disappointing Christmas tree lasts for one season, a disappointing bronze sculpture can last a lifetime.
We hope this comparison helps you make an informed decision when purchasing your next work of art. At Art of Bronze, our goal has always been simple: deliver a sculpture that looks every bit as beautiful in person as it does in the photographs.
