Art of Bronze is pleased to offer this beautifully detailed and realistic bronze statue of “Augustus of Prima Porta.” This is a 31” full-length portrait sculpture of Augustus Caesar, the first emperor of the Roman Empire. Augustus is shown wearing military clothing as commander-in-chief of the Roman army; he is carrying a consular baton and raising his right hand in a rhetorical adlocutio pose, addressing the troop. A small Cupid (son of Venus) sits at his feet. This sculpture is sure to create the perfect touch to your home or office.
The 6 ft. tall Greek carved version that is now on display in the Braccio Nuovo (New Arm) of the Vatican Museums was discovered on April 20, 1863 at the Villa of Livia owned by Augustus’ third wife, Livia Drusilla in Prima Porta. Livia had retired to the villa after Augustus’s death in AD 14.
