Art of Bronze was deeply honored to collaborate with Moreno Valley College in Riverside, CA, on a truly remarkable and meaningful project: the creation of five breathtaking, life-size bronze mountain lion sculptures. The mountain lion holds special significance for the college, serving as its athletic icon and a symbol of strength and resilience. Over the years, many students and staff have reported sightings of these majestic creatures on the surrounding hillsides, making them a fitting and inspiring emblem for the campus.
The first phase of this project began in 2018, when Art of Bronze proudly installed two mountain lion sculptures at the college’s striking front stairway entrance. One dynamic statue, poised mid-stride, stands atop the large left-hand concrete pillar adjacent to the Student Services Building. The other, an intricately detailed crouching mountain lion, rests on a sculpted branch encased within the right-hand concrete pillar near the Science and Technology Building. Both instantly became campus landmarks, capturing the spirit of the college community.
In 2022, Art of Bronze was privileged to return for the second phase, adding three more magnificent mountain lions to grace the entrance of the newly built Welcome Center. This state-of-the-art facility houses essential enrollment and student services, including Admissions & Records, Student Financial Services, Outreach, and the Dream & Pride Centers. Positioned at ground level to greet all visitors, two of these bronze sculptures stand proudly atop rugged rock boulders, while the third perches gracefully on a bronze tree branch, ready to pounce into view. Together, they create an unforgettable welcome for students, faculty, and guests alike.
Moreno Valley College, which offers over 55 academic programs, first opened its doors in 1992 and achieved full accreditation in 2010, becoming California’s 111th community college. This installation of bronze mountain lions not only enhances the beauty of its campus but also serves as a lasting tribute to the college’s spirit, heritage, and connection to the natural world. For Art of Bronze, this project was more than a commission—it was an honor and a privilege to help bring the heart of Moreno Valley College’s identity to life in timeless bronze.
