Art of Bronze

Art of Bronze was honored to create this impressive life-size bronze statue of Dick Wood, former Chairman and CEO of Wawa Corporation based in Media, PA.  The sculpture features Mr. Wood relaxingly standing with a welcoming smile to all those that enter the Dick Wood Lobby in Wawa’s corporate headquarters.  He is wearing dress slacks, shirt, tie and jacket tossed over his right shoulder.  His left foot is lifted and supported by a Wawa crate.  We chose to incorporate the crate because of Wawa’s early roots in dairy farming and delivery.  In Mr. Wood’s left hand is a bronze inscribed pamphlet that forever lists the Column One principles for the culture of the company’s work environment.  Today, Wawa is known to be a business with a genuine cult like following like that of In-N-Out Burgers and Chic-fil-A!  One of our favorite touches to the sculpture was including a special area that allowed Wawa core values pins to be attached to the lapel of the jacket draped across his back.  Wawa employees interchange the six different core value pins throughout the year.

Richard D. ‘Dick’ Wood, Jr.

In 1977, Richard D. ‘Dick’ Wood, Jr. (Grahame’s second cousin, b. 1938) became president of Wawa Food Markets, and CEO in 1981. Dick Wood presided over Wawa’s growth during the 1980s and 1990s, which included adding coffee to the stores’; expanding the line of hoagies and other food service products introducing technological innovations to product control, store management, and foodservice; and adding gasoline pumps to many stores.  Mr. Wood retired as CEO of company in 2004 and retired as chairman in 2020.

  • Maintenance

Bronze lasts forever and will never rust, warp or contort. It is an alloy (a mixture of metals) and will oxidize over the years. This process will not hurt the statue. In fact, it can enhance the beauty by turning the statue many wonderful shades of greens, blues, whites and yellows. For the client that wants to maintain the original patina/coloring of their newly acquired work of art, Art of Bronze has several secrets. Every statue and placement will have different requirements and it is best to discuss your needs with Art of Bronze.
